Happy 34th Birthday!

Gillian and Craig making getting older so much easier (and fun). This is us in our home made party hats because the store didn't have Phineas and Ferb party hats. I think I appreciated them more because they were made just for us:)

Expanding our family...

My younger brother came up with the idea of making my Dad stepping stones for his birthday (November 9th). My Dad is very into gardening and I had thought of it on numerous occasions and I just had never gotten around to it so I thought this was great. We first attempted a stepping stone for my niece on Sunday the 1st, the directions say to ask a parent for help, Craig and I removed it from the mold on Monday night and broke the stone:( So Tuesday I did Gillian's and it worked and this morning it just popped out of the mold. My younger brother and his GF are both sick so I had to call my brother's ex wife and ask to take my niece for a couple of hours to get her stepping stone done. She said it wasn't a problem so I picked her up on my way home from work.

Like most people we are in a routine, the 3 of us and Pooh Bear pretty much do the same things everyday. So adding another child to the mix was very interesting and different. Right from the minute they saw each other there was yelling and excitement. They were off running and playing within seconds. I went in and greeted Craig who was already cooking dinner. We had dinner and did the stepping stone right off which seemed like it was going to work. I had said I would have my niece back home around 7 so that would give the girls a little while to play together. This gave us a preview of expanding our family....The ratio of 2:2 is more overwhelming than 2:1. Not that they did anything bad or were awful to deal with but I guess we are just not use to all the noise and commotion. Craig was all sorts of our of place, normally he is Gillian's #1 playmate and he didn't really exist to them other than he had to remind them to keep the tone to an inside tone.

I had been really wanting a second child and felt our family was missing out on something since I don't know many only children but after a preview, I think our only child is definitely what suits our family.

Dance Started...

So today was the big day!

Friday night we picked out the dance outfit and tights, made sure the dance bag was packed. I made sure to plug in the camera so it was fully charged. I gave Gillian the run down, get up, eat breakfast, change into dance clothes and then off to class. This way she doesn't have any meltdowns if things don't go in the order she expects.

So this morning, we got up and followed the agenda from the night before. She had been dying to get into her dance outfit since we purchased it. For the last year, Gillian has been so excited to be a "big girl" and be able to go to dance class so today was her day. I wasn't sure what to expect from myself...emotions I wasn't sure if it would get the better of me. When I think back to the days when Gillian was first born and we were told she may not lead a normal life...it's hard for me to forget. Luckily, I was able to keep my emotions under control and enjoy the class. I figured Gillian would be shy and it would take her time to warm up to the idea of being part of the class. It did take her a bit of time, after about 15 minutes she joined. I think the only time I welled up was after Gillian had been participating for a bit she ran over to me in between dances and gave me a big hug, kind-a like I'm set Mom, I really am a big girl. She is growing up so fast. Class was done before I knew it and we were headed home. She is already looking forward to next week.

Today was also my Mom's birthday. So we went over for dinner to celebrate. Gillian was so excited. I had ordered a Scooby-Doo cake and had "Happy Birthday Grammie" put on it so it was from the grandkids. Gillian thought this was the coolest thing and kept reminding me we had to go so Grammie to bring her the cake. When all the family was finally there, Gillian screamed the party is starting! She is too cute. She still isn't too sure of her Uncles, depends on the day other than that she was extremely social. It was nice to see everyone and I love that Gillian is learning how important these special days are for everyone. Happy Birthday Grammie!

Happy Birthday!

Friday night was interesting…Gillian felt the need to poop in the tub…I definitely think potty training thus far is the toughest part of parent hood. Yes, the guessing of what is wrong when a baby is sick is tough but changing diapers is much easier and cleaner than potty training. Yuck! I can’t wait for this phase to be done.

Saturday Gillian and I hung out with Craig. Normal Saturday, played Candy Land and Gillian beat me 3 times. And I didn’t even let her win; she beat me on her own. As soon as Craig left the house, I got Gillian dressed (yes getting out of PJs on a Saturday is not mandatory around here!) and we headed out to get supplies to decorate the house for Craig’s birthday. We went and ordered balloons and got a cake. We had celebrated his birthday with family on July 13th but I wanted to make sure that Gillian understood that it is important to celebrate important dates. Gillian fell asleep on the way home and I figured as soon as she was up she would want to play with the balloons. I was wrong! She woke up and immediately wanted to start decorating for Daddy’s birthday. We had to put the 13 balloons up and around the house. Gillian drew Daddy a picture and we had to practice the birthday song. She was so excited and I took pictures because she was just having a blast.

Today is Craig’s actually birthday. Happy 31st Birthday! We went out to breakfast with Craig’s parents. Then Grammie Miner said she wanted to take Gillian for the day so off to the beach they went today. I have been puttering around the house. There is stuff I really should be doing but I’m only so motivated. This week Gillian’s daycare is closed for vacation so she is spending the days with Grammie Brooks. I love that Gillian gets quality time with her grandparents. My Mom’s parents passed away young and my Dad’s parents lived in England so I didn’t see grandparents like Gillian does. It is something that I greatly appreciate for her and I know one day she will be happy that she got all this time with them. I think that it keeps them young and active too so it is definitely good for them too.
